Rewilding Oder Delta: the Elk comeback
Excitingly, in recent years Eurasian elk has begun migrating west from its original habitat in Eastern Poland and started to settle down in Germany. Alas, there are many risks threatening its slowly growing population in the Oder Delta, e.g. the highways. Thanks to the intensive efforts of foresters and other local stakeholders, first animal crossings have been implemented on the Polish side. At Rewilding Oder Delta we are working with partners on these and other threats to support the comeback of this iconic species.
Wolf Watch UK welcomes Bosch, the new wolf.
Tony Haighway, founder of Wolf Watch UK introduces Bosch, the new arrival at the sanctuary. Tony tells a story of how a visit at Yellowstone National Park in the USA sparked his passion for wolves and talks about the project of wolf reintroduction there. But there is more to rewilding than predator reintroductions and everyone can contribute their bit to restoring nature in their local area.

SWIMMING WITH MANATEES
Anneka is privileged to get up close with one of the world's rarest and most docile sea mammals, The Manatee, otherwise known as the Sea Cow in The Crystal River in Florida. Are they more closely related to Elephants than whales and walruses? Watch to find out... Remember to always be careful around these threatened creatures. As stated in the film, respect and space should always be given to them. Do not chase or frighten them just to get a photo. Disclaimer: The ONLY place you can legally swim with a manatee in the state of Florida is the Crystal River. You can only touch a manatee as long as the animal initiates contact first which they did with the host in this film. If a manatee does not initiate contact then you must not touch or chase one. This is the advise that we were given when on our trip. If a manatee approaches you, you are allowed in this circumstance to extend one hand out only. Some manatees, especially young ones, are very curious and may come up to examine you (Manatees are very short-sighted) in which case you may put one hand out to the manatee. You must never touch a manatee under its front flipper as this is where the females keep their mammary glands. The young manatee in our film approached the host for contact and was outside of the protected zone. Animal Watch was vigilant in obeying all of the advice and laws they were advised of by the boating company. FOREST 2018 Documentary
In 2016 Polish Government authorised an intensive nearly three-fold increase in logging operations in Białowieża Forest region, Poland's only natural UNESCO heritage and the last remaining primeval forest on the European lowland. Minister of the Environment quoted multiple excuses as the reason for it. This decision has resulted in a lot of socio-political tension. FOREST is a documentary exploring the conflict based around the logging of Białowieża Forest, its consequences and prospects for the resolution. The film also documents brave and influential actions of the activists from all around Poland and abroad in attempt to save this precious wilderness.
Not a Tall Tale: Giraffe Conservation Documentary
'Not a Tall Tale' is a documentary aiming to highlight issues of the conservation state of giraffes, species silently vanishing from our planet. The film is done in a reality-TV style in hope to captivate the attention of audiences not typically interested in purely environmental matters. It showcases images of giraffes from Schotia Private Game Reserve in South Africa with a commentary from one of the reserve's rangers, Kurt von Maltitz, as well as a discussion with the conservationist Osiris Doumbe about his work with 'critically endangered' Kordofan giraffes in Cameroon and Bristol's local conservation initiative - Wild Place Project. 'The conservation status of seven of the currently IUCN-recognised nine giraffe subspecies has been assessed –five of these subspecies for the first time ever. For many, it comes as a shock that three of the giraffe subspecies are now listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ (Kordofan and Nubian giraffe) and ‘Endangered’ (Reticulated giraffe), while others range from ‘Vulnerable’ (Thornicroft’s and West African giraffe) to ‘Near Threatened’ (Rothschild’s giraffe). Only Angolan giraffe – with their stronghold in Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe – seem to be out of trouble and are listed as ‘Least Concern’. Only the South African and Masai giraffe are yet to be assessed. While South African giraffe appear to be doing well, Masai giraffe have plummeted and will most likely be placed within one of the threatened categories of the IUCN Red List.'
